Star Trek: The Original Series - Episode #1: “The Man Trap”
1966

In light of J.J. Abrams’ reincarnation of the Star Trek franchise, I decided that it might be a good idea to get a sense of where the all the hype is coming from—so I went right to the source.  Having never been a “Trekkie,” so to speak, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going into what was, rather confusingly, the first NBC-aired episode, sixth produced show, and second story in official Star Trek canon.  I would’ve preferred to have posted the actual video right here, but “embedding has been disabled by request.”
What I found, however, was a surpisingly entertaining quasi-pilot, complete with an intriguing story, good special effects (comparatively speaking), and excellent characters.  For sure, I will spend more time exploring this classic series (which is posted in its entirety on YouTube) before going to see the new movie.
